Ezra Harvey Jorgensen was born April 4th 2016 at 2:40 pm weighing 6 lbs 7 oz and 19 1/2 inches long.
We spent Sunday night in the hospital because I was going to officially be induced Monday morning. The first thing they did there was give me an IV. Josh almost passed out, legit almost passed out. He told the nurse he was going to pass out and they had to get him a chair and make sure he was okay. Haha! It was a little worrisome considering what was coming later! They gave me something throughout the night that was supposed to help me dilate and soften and get ready for labor. I had contractions all night but didn't feel them until around 4:30 in the morning and they weren't too bad...just a little uncomfortable. I kept trying to sleep until about 6:30 when it became impossible because the contractions were so strong and painful!! They came in and told me the last dose of the pill they gave me ended up putting me too far in to labor and I was having too frequent and strong of contractions (a minute apart! ouch!) and I was only dilated a 3. They gave me something to help the contractions slow down and then I asked when I could get the epidural...Haha! I was ready!
At 8:30 I was able to get an epidural and it was great! Seriously, I loved it! I finally was able to get some sleep and felt so relaxed. At 10:30 they came in and told me I was dilated to a 5-6 and that since I was progressing on my own they wouldn't need to give me anything to induce me, I was doing it on my own! At 12:00 I started feeling a lot of pressure and I told Josh that I was worried the contractions were too strong and that I was starting to feel them through the epidural. We called in the nurse and she told me I was dilated to a 10 and ready to go!! We decided to "labor down" for a little while longer, meaning that since I wasn't in pain we would just let the contractions do their job and help push the baby down so that I wouldn't have to push as long.
Finally, at 2:00 it was time to push! I pushed for about 10 minutes but they were worried about Ezra and the cord being wrapped around something. His heart rate dropped with every contraction, even when I didn't push, and it took a little bit for it to come back up. We waited for the doctor to show up and then I pushed a couple times and he said we needed to get the baby out faster. He grabbed a vacuum to help pull him out while I pushed. We did that for about 10-15 minutes. Josh did great and was so encouraging and counted through each push for me. I asked him how he was doing and told him not to watch...I didn't want him to pass out! But he said he was fine and was watching (from the side...where it was a little more safe to watch) When Ezra finally started crowning the nurses said "look at all that hair!!" I looked at Josh and said "he has hair?!" I was so excited and happy! It gave me a bunch of motivation and I pushed as hard as I could and he came out. It was the most magical moment seeing him there for the first time. He was so much cuter than I even imagined. I started crying and looked at Josh and he had tears in his eyes looking at me and at our son. It was so surreal to finally have our son here and to see his little face.
They scooped him away to make sure everything was okay and the rest was a blur of making sure he was okay, I was okay and then they brought him back to me and I was able to hold him. It was amazing.
It's been so amazing to finally see him and hold him. During labor I think something switched in Josh and changed him. Just in those short few minutes of labor and then seeing Ezra, he changed and became a Dad and it's been the most adorable thing I've ever seen.
I'm so lucky :)
